Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the June 20 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!
First, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads who listened in or are catching up on the show here! We presented the annual Father’s Day Special, where we spotlighted area music scene dads…along with moms, sons and daughters – and celebrated area music scene family traditions! We heard from plenty of dads, as well as some moms, sons and daughters, and even played a few tunes featuring two generations of the same family! We also debuted new tunes from the Derek Woods Band, Chip & the Charge Ups and Skyline Drive; updated “Local Music News” and featured several “Local Music Flashback” tunes along the way! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. According to a press release, The Richland Community Days Festival committee announced the cancellation of this year’s 14th Annual Richland Community Days Festival due to a lack of funding, resources, and related issues to organize, produce, and present the festival. The event had been scheduled for August 20-21 on the corner of Schoolhouse Road and Theater Drive in Richland Township near Johnstown. The 2022 Richland Community Days Festival has tentatively been scheduled for August 19-20 next year.
The reunion and “farewell” show from Altoona rock’n’roll legends The Front is back on. Originally slated for last year, The Front’s farewell show was shelved twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show will now take place on Saturday, November 6 at The Casino near Lakemont Park. More details will be forthcoming, but the show will begin with a video presentation featuring video, television footage, pictures and radio clips, followed by an animated short film featuring the band members.
Johnstown-based singer and songwriter Dan Stonerook has teamed with two Pittsburgh area musicians to form a new band project. Moonshine Jasmine features Dan on guitar, mandolin, harmonica and vocals, along with Megan Pennington on vocals and guitar, plus Ty Cannon on bass. The group recently issued an album called Before Moonshine Jasmine, featuring some of both Megan’s and Dan’s previously recorded music. Moonshine Jasmine’s first local appearance will be next Sunday, June 27, at the Roxbury Bandshell in Johnstown, where they will pair up with Dan’s other band, Wounded Moose.
And in the celebration of area music scene family traditions on this week’s “Homegrown Rocker,” dad Jack Servello has teamed with son Richie Servello in a new duo project called Acoustic Express. Jack sings and plays acoustic guitar, while Richie plays drums. The pair performed last Saturday at Slinger’s Throw House in Altoona.
