An investigation has been underway since that explosion in Tyrone destroyed two homes and killed one woman last month, and now some early results have been released. Peoples Natural Gas says a gas leak that caused the massive explosion was brought about by a break in a gas line that was caused when an auger being operated by a contractor who was working on a water project, hit a gas main. The gas company says all their lines were properly marked. 83 year old Anna Hunsicker died instantly when her house exploded. Her grandson who was there with her at the time escaped, but he had to be taken to a hospital. The fire then erupted, and destroyed what was left of the Hunsicker house and spread to the house next door, destroying it as well. Two people there were lucky to get out alive. Investigators say the front of the Hunsicker house was only about 20 feet away from the leak, where they say gas permeated the soil under the street and sidewalk and entered the basement of the Hunsicker house, where something sparked and ignited it. The investigation is ongoing.
