Backyard Beats 10/15/21: PumpkinFest, Hanna Barakat This Weekend!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, October 15 through Thursday, October 21.

With the arrival of cooler fall temperatures this weekend, outdoor fall festival season winds down with a few more events…Downtown Hollidaysburg’s annual PumpkinFest happens Saturday, with fall arts and crafts vendors, food and refreshments, children’s activities, and live music from the Altoona Brass Collective and the Hollidaysburg Area High School Drumline…The two-day Akersville Fall Festival takes place both Friday and Saturday in Akersville (located three miles southeast of Breezewood), and features arts and crafts vendors, locally-sourced food and refreshments, cider pressing and live music – see the listing below for the live music schedule…And the Smokey Valley Sportsmen’s Club near Hastings presents its outdoor fall Craft Fair & Flea Market event on Saturday, with the Backyard Rockers providing the music.

Among the indoors highlights this weekend is the “Scorpio Rising Art Exhibition” event at The Sanctuary at ArtsAltoona Center (the former Simpson-Temple United Parish facility) in Altoona. Art will be on display, and live music will fill the evening starting at 7 p.m., with performances from Austin, Texas-based Hanna Barakat (with Altoona’s Lisa Fazenbaker on percussion), Wishbone, Alpha Violet, Digital Graves, Crazed Visions and Memory Collector.

And Hanna Barakat and her band will also appear at McGarvey’s Bar and Grill on Saturday night, headlining a triple-bill that also includes The PennSoulvanians and Uptown Jazz. The music kicks off at 8 p.m.
