Warm up your weekend with live music! There are numerous live music events taking place on area stages throughout this weekend and upcoming week.
This weekend presents two good opportunities to explore some up-and-coming area bands and performers. The Joos Bar in downtown Altoona presents one of those opportunities on Friday evening with the “A Path Less Traveled Music Showcase,” as several musicians present their styles of original music starting at 6 p.m. Taking the stage will be Samantha Press, Jeff Wendle, Matthew Sheedy, Digital Graves (alternative rock artist Ian Wissinger), Lucid Youth (the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Guy Mauro) and meditation specialist Ariana Kriebel (with percussion accompaniment). Artwork by Emma Housel will also be showcased. Admission is $5 per person. Joos is located at 1402 1/2 11th Avenue (across from Heritage Plaza).
And the ArtsAltoona Center will present the latest installment of their all-ages “Bands in the Basement” series on Saturday evening, with performances from area bands Abstentious, Sweet Desire, Anti Corn League, Skyline Drive, Sunset over Mars and Vehement. Doors open at 5 p.m. with music starting at 6 p.m. Soda, water and snacks will be available for purchase; no alcohol or outside beverages permitted. Admission is $10 per person. The ArtsAltoona Center is located at 2212 6th Avenue (the former Simpson-Temple United Parish facility.
