SOME SOUND ADVICE CAN HELP RESIDENTS AVOID HOUSE FIRES DURING THE COLD WINTER MONTHS.

IN A REPORT BY WJAC TV, FIRE OFFICIALS SAID THAT THERE ARE COMMON SENSE THINGS WE CAN DO TO DECREASE THE CHANCES OF SETTING OUR HOMES ON FIRE DURING THIS TIME. FIRST, NEVER USE AN EXTENSION CORD WITH PORTABLE SPACE HEATERS. ALSO, NEVER PUT THOSE SPACE HEATERS IN AREAS WHERE THEY CAN BE HARD TO REACH IN CASE YOU NEED TO TURN THEM OFF QUICKLY. FOR EXAMPLE IN CRAWL SPACES OR UNDERNEATH A SINK WHERE WATER PIPES COULD GET IN THE WAY. ALSO, WITH SPACE HEATERS, NEVER SET THEM UP NEAR ANY FLAMMABLE MATERIALS. NEXT, NEVER LEAVE A STOVE OR OVEN UNATTENDED WHEN COOKING FOOD, AND NEVER LEAVE A CANDLE UNATTENDED EVEN IF YOU ARE IN THE NEXT ROOM.
