THE SHERIFF IN CENTRE COUTNY IS WARNING RESIDENTS IN CENTRAL PA ABOUT TWO MORE PHONE SCAMS.
WTAJ REPORTED THAT THE SHERIFF HAS INFORMED THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT SCAMMERS CALLING RESIDENTS TELLING THEM THEY MISSED COURT APPOINTMENTS OR CHILD CUSTODY HEARINGS AND DEMANDING PAYMENT. THE SCAMMERS WE ARE TOLD HAVE HEAVY FOREIGN ACCENTS AND ARE TELLING POTENTIAL VICTIMS THAT THEY WILL BE ARRESTED IF THEY DON’T PROVIDE PREPAID VISA CARD NUMBERS OVER THE TELEPHONE. ALSO, THE THIEVES ARE TELLING RESIDENTS THAT THEY MUST GO TO THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND SEND $5000 VIA APPLE PAY TO MAKE THE ARREST WARRANT GO AWAY. AGAIN, POLICE WARN YOU NOT TO GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION, PARTICULARLY IF YOU GET A CALL FROM A NUMBER NOT ON YOUR CONTACT LIST.
