A REPORT FROM HARISBURG INDICATES THAT ATTORNEY GENERAL JOSH SHAPIRO HAS ANNOUNCED THE ARRESTS OF 5 OUT OF STATE RESIDENTS, CHARGED WITH DEFRAUDING PENNNSYLVANIA OUT OF PANDEMIC UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE MONEY. THE 5 INCLUDE 3 RESIDENTS FROM NEW JERSEY, 1 FROM GEORGIA AND 1 FROM DELAWARE. IN ALL, 9 SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN NAMED IN THE FRAUD SCHEME, WHICH WAS TO DIVERT $925,000 FROM PENNSYLVANIA PANDEMIC RELIEF UNEMPLOYMENT FUNDS INTO THEIR POCKETS. THE SUSPECTS ARE CHARGED WITH FILING SOME 145 FRAUDULENT CLAIMS WHILE ALLEGEDLY WORKING FOR A TRUCKING COMPANY, USING AN ADDRESS IN CHESTER. THE CLAIMS TOTALLED THE $925,000, OF WHICH NEARLY HALF A MILLION WAS ACTUALLY PAID OUT. 44 PEOPLE ACROSS THE STATE HAVE ALSO BEEN CHARGED WITH FRAUD TO OBTAIN UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION ILLEGALLY.
