WTAJ REPORTS THAT COUNCIL DISCUSSED GOING AHEAD WITH A PARKING STUDY OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA. THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY IS TO GET INPUT ON HOW TO EXPAND PARKING OPTIONS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA. WITH THE EXPANSION OF PENN STATE ALTOONA INTO DOWNTOWN, STUDENTS WITH CARS ARE PARKING DURING MOST OF THE DAY, AND COUNCIL IS LOOKING AT OPTIONS TO PROVIDE MORE PARKING FOR THOSE STUDENTS AND FOR RESIDENTS WHO TRAVEL TO THE AREA. ALSO DISCUSSED, COUNCIL REPORTED THAT IT HAS APPLIED FOR A GRANT OF NEARLY $688,000 TO HELP WITH THE PURCHASE OF A NEW AND MORE TECH FRIENDLY FIRE ENGINE FOR THE CITY. LASTLY, COUNCIL WILL LOOK AT ADOPTING THE SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY STATUS FOR THE COUNTY, WHICH WOULD PROHIBIT THE USE OF TAXPAYER MONEY FOR ANY GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION.
