A WTAJ report indicates that all of the counties in the immediate regional area are now capable of receiving text messages at their 911 call centers. Somerset county was the last to join this effort to give citizens another avenue to call for help. 59 of the states 67 counties are now equipped to receive text messages just in case a person cannot call directly. While it is another option, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency still recommends that you dial 911 to give information to receive help. Texting is crucial for those who may have hearing or speech difficulties, of if they are in a situation where they cannot speak such as a home invasion or robbery or if they are involved in a domestic abuse situation.
