Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 5/1/22

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 1 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

This week, we returned to the mailboxes to check out more new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks from the local and regional music scene! We debuted new tunes from Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors, String Machine, Denny & Ken, Memory Collector, Gonto, 9Sundays, Cassie & the Bailout Crew, Ma’aM, The Daylight Society, Faux Fear and Grampian! We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2005 number by Altoona’s Second Offense from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song by Winston-Salem, North Carolina’s Holyroller! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 050122.)

In Local Music News…

Since his passing in 2020 occurred just before the COVID-19 lockdown and a public event couldn’t immediately take place, a celebration of the life of State College music great Mark Ross will take place on May 29 at Café 210 West; the “party” for Mark will start at 1 p.m. with an open mic, followed at 3 p.m. by a performance by the Blue Hornet Band and an assortment of other guests. Complimentary snacks will be available, and children will be allowed to attend.

And Shamokin/Pottsville-based heavy rockers Dead Leaves announced this week that they have entered the recording studio to start laying down tracks toward a possible new release. It has been 20 years since Dead Leaves released their last album, 2002’s Your Kind Is Labeled.
