Johnstown school board takes heat

WJAC reported that parents and concerned citizens confronted the GJSD board about the ongoing violence within the walls of the high school. Superintendent Amy Arcurio told the gathering that 3% of students are causing a lot of the violence, which does not reflect the overall image of the district. But parents said that too many incidents are occurring, and someone needs to account for those incidents. In April, the board actually put up a vote of “no confidence “ against Arcurio. Some board members attributed the violence to economic issues and that kids are coming from a lot of broken homes in Johnstown. Also, Arcurio addressed the homicide and drug arrest rate as negative influences on children, and they need to feel safe.
