News reports indicate the board voted last night to accept the budget. Just last week we reported to you that several members of the board had expressed concern on whether or not to raise taxes in light of the horrible shape of the nations economy. But last night, the board did vote to increase taxes for property owners. According to the report, the increase will cost homeowners an extra $20 per year on a $100,000 valued property. According to some board members, this increase will help save both programs and staff positions. Superintendent Dr. Robert Gildea said that the district was in a no win situation, and that something had to give. He said that if there was no increase, staffing and athletics would have to endure cuts.
