In a report by WTAJ, the outgoing Governor is preparing his last budget for adoption, and he wants there to be a line item that gives $2000 checks to Pa households that bring in less than $80,000 a year. That proposal has met with resistance by republicans in Harrisburg, saying that the half billion dollars that would be needed to cover this idea, could be put to better use, say in a rainy day fund. The governor and his cabinet continue to push the narrative that with soaring prices everywhere, pa residents need some relief, and these checks are the way to get that relief into the hands of folks who need it. The state budget needs to be voted on and signed into law by June 30th.
