A report from News Nation indicates the Senate passed the bill by a 65-33 margin, securing the necessary 60 vote majority that will all but ensure the bills passage. The bill would toughen background checks for very young gun purchasers. Sellers would also be required to conduct background checks. And gun traffickers would face stiffer penalties. More money will be forwarded to schools for mental health improvement and safety measures. Also, people convicted of domestic abuse would not be permitted to own a firearm. Yesterdays vote will prevent the senate from stopping the measure with the filibuster rule. It now goes to the house for its possible vote.
