The Justices this week issued a ruling that struck down New York’s restrictive gun laws. The main part of the law in question was the state’s requirement that people had to show proof that they needed to secure a gun permit to purchase a weapon. Justice Clarence Thomas stated that the New York law clearly violated the 2nd Amendment. President Biden said he is disappointed by the ruling, saying it contradicts both common sense and the constitution. Several other states that have similar laws may now look to the supreme court to overturn their laws as well. The vote was 6-3, with all 3 liberal justices voting against the ruling. NY governor Democrat Kathy Hochul called the decision reckless and outrageous.
