A report by WTAJ indicates that 2 employees in the office spoke to the commissioner at their weekly meeting, urging them to rectify the ongoing problem of people leaving for better jobs. The two employees told the commissioners that these people have gone elsewhere because of the low wages paid by the county, and the high number of cases each worker has to tackle. Blair county currently has 12 caseworkers with 30 cases per worker. The county has 25 staffing positions currently vacant in the department. The two women who spoke said that the low wages are the main driving force behind the lack of employees in CYS. The workers said they will continue to attend the weekly meetings until something is done about the problem.
