A television news report indicates that Karen Sites was on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC when she was apparently bitten by a shark in waist deep waters. Sites told reporters that she felt something bite her arm, and when she looked down, a shark was hanging on to her arm. She required surgery and hundreds of stitches. Authorities warn beach goers that sharks usually feed at both dusk and dawn, and people are not to go into waters where people are fishing. Sites was quoted as saying she will still go to the beach, just not into the water again.
