A report from WJAC indicates that the state Auditor General has conducted an audit of the turnpike, and concluded that the organization has accumulated more debt than the entire state government. Auditor General Tim Defoor said that the turnpike commission has an unsustainable situation, and the only way out is to…RAISE Tolls. The recent audit also revealed that the turnpike has failed to collect some $104 million in unpaid tolls. Defoor says that the legislature must now take a look at finding ways to to mitigate the current debt situation. He says that Harrisburg must work out a solution to keep the turnpike financially viable.
