Backyard Beats Listing 9/30: Corks & Hops, Bedford Fall Foliage and Prince Gallitzin Apple Cider Fests This Weekend!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, September 30 through Thursday, October 6.

So first, let’s get the bad news out of the way…The rains of Ian are forecast to impact central Pennsylvania on Saturday and Sunday. So if you are planning to catch any outdoor live music either day, first check ahead to see if the event is still taking place, and if it is, plan to dress accordingly.

Two of the area’s prominent outdoor fall festivals will take place this weekend. The annual two-weekend Bedford Fall Foliage Festival starts this Saturday and Sunday in downtown Bedford, and will happen rain or shine. Arts and other vendors, food and refreshment stands, and live music on two stages will all be part of the festival. See the listing below to find out this weekend’s festival performer schedule.

And the annual Apple Cider Festival will take place on Sunday at Prince Gallitzin State Park in the Muskrat Beach area. This festival will also have arts and crafts vendors, food and refreshment stands, and live music. The Tussey Mountain Moonshiners will perform starting at 4 p.m. (no word of any earlier entertainment at the time this was posted). For those wishing to avoid traffic gridlock getting in and out of the festival area, pontoon boat rides to and from the event will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Killbuck Boat Launch.

Not being impacted by Ian’s rains whatsover will be the Corks & Hops fundraiser for the Mountain Lion BackPack program, taking place on Friday evening inside The Casino at Altoona’s Lakemont Park. Beer and wine sampling will take place starting at 6 p.m., and hors d’oeuvres, appetizers and desserts will be available. Live music will be a big part of the evening, with Cumberland-based bluegrass group JiggleBilly taking the stage at 6:30 p.m., followed by Virginia bluegrass and folk performers The Plate Scrapers at 7:45 p.m., and renowned Binghamton, New York-based folk and Americana music adventurers Driftwood at 9 p.m. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Mountain Lion BackPack program, which provides elementary children in the Altoona Area School District with food for the weekends when other resources may not be available to them.

These are just some of many live music events scheduled for this weekend and upcoming week. See the listing below to find out who is performing where, and as always, SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!
