WTAJ reports that Sheriff James Ott is looking for state grant money to help his department with communication issues. Sheriff Ott says that his people need new radios that are up to date, and he is also looking to secure body cameras as well as in car computers. Ott says that the new radios would include updated and secure encryption to help ensure safety for his deputies out in the field, and that no one could listen in. Ott says that with the $5.3 million his office is seeking, this could lead to more police training and improve overall communication. Ott says that this grant money would also save the taxpayers of Blair County money.
