A report in the Altoona Mirror suggests that city council has decided to take over operating Prospect Pool at least for 2023, to take the heat and pressure off of the Central Blair Rec Commission. Council says that it will do all it can to bring swimmers back to the pool after a dismal 2022 season. One council member says that if the city’s efforts are not successful, then spending $5 million on a high end replacement for the pool is not an option. Some of the efforts to come from the city will be to get business sponsorships, increase hours of operation, have increased security, offer season passes, hosting parties and improving the concession menu. The pool must also have enough certified life guards to make it operational.
