Allegheny Twp police told the Mirror that there have been a number of reports of people begin distracted while shopping by at least two people. One person is approached by a stranger and is distracted, while a second person comes along and steals purses and wallets that may be in a shopping cart. The report says that when these items are stolen, the thieves usually try to use credit or debit cards within 30 minutes of the theft. Police advise you to always be aware of your surroundings. Police also warned that the thieves are approaching shoppers who are alone.
