Sen. Kim Ward of Westmoreland county has been chosen to become the next Pro Tempore leader of the Pennsylvania Senate. The republican will assume the role beginning in January when the legislature returns from the holiday break. Ward leaves her post as senate majority leader, which will be filled by Sen. Joe Pittman of Indiana county. The house still sits at a 100 seat deadlock today, and there is no way to choose a leader because neither party has claimed the majority of seats. 102 is the number needed. Democrat Jay Costa of Allegheny county will remain as the minority leader in the senate.
