Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 10/30/22

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 30 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

With this week’s program falling on the eve of Halloween, it was only appropriate to present the 2022 installment of the “Homegrown Rocker” Halloween Special! Every band, artist or song that aired featured some connection to Halloween – songs about ghosts, vampires, spiders, zombies, witches, insects, devils, monsters and other creatures! We debuted new Halloween-connected tunes from Images Of Eden and Burn The Martyr, scarily updated “Local Music News,” dug into the archive for a psychotic 2000 number from Stept On for our “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a monstrous number from Frostburg, Maryland’s The Downstrokes, and reviewed Curwensville-based horror rockers Less Than Zero’s Rotten album in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 103022.)

In Local Music News…

Two regional bands hit paydirt recently after winning awards during the 8th annual Josie Music Awards, presented last Sunday night (Oct. 23) in Nashville. Lancaster-based country and southern rock group The Jess Zimmerman Band took home the album of the year award for their 2021 album called Breathe, while western PA rockers SourMash won the Entertainer Of The Year award in the Rock category. In addition, Mount Pleasant-based country singer Andy Davis won the award for Modern Male Country artist. Started in 2015, the Josie Music Awards is the largest independent music award show globally, and recognizes musicians and music from all genres. This year’s award presentation took place at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

Grammy Award-winning Blair County musicians Mike Reid and Paul Winter have been added to this year’s ballot to be considered for induction into the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall Of Fame. The two musicians are among 75 names being considered for selection during the 4th annual Central Pennsylvania Music Hall Of Fame ceremony, which takes place on March 30, 2023 at the Hershey Theater in Hershey. Their names join another Blair Countian – Tyrone native, musician, bandleader, and radio and television personality Fred Waring – as names being considered for induction.

Mothman, the independent horror film directed by Joshua Brucker that features Post Traumatik’s song “Flight of the Mothman,” has begun to be shown on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service.

Pittsburgh-based heavy metal project Synesthesia has announced the addition of a second guitar player, as Collins Carlin joins the group.

And a Gallitzin building that housed music venues in the past came to its end via the wrecking ball this past week. The building, located at the corner of Forest and Main Streets in Gallitzin, during the 1980s and 90s was the location of Frank’s Pier, which hosted such bands as the early editions of Felix & the Hurricanes, Edge Of Sundown, Bitter Route, One Night Stand, Henwae and others, along with a few national touring names such as Raging Slab and the Dixie All Stars (featuring members of Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot). In the building’s later incarnation as Mug Shots, an aspiring country artist named Josh Gallagher performed there during open mic nights before he headed to Nashville and became a finalist on NBC Television’s “The Voice” program.
