A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that borough council has voted to increase property taxes for next year. Council voted on the spending plan this week, and said that it kept the increase as low as possible. The increase means that a homeowner with an assessed property value of $130,000 will pay about $65 more. Council Finance Director Shannon Wilson said the borough cannot continue to rely on its fund balance to cover any budget deficits, because of continued increasing costs to the borough, and in time it will be wiped out, and tax increases could be larger in the future.
