A report in the Altoona Mirror suggests that AMED has voted to increase its rates for ambulance transportation. During a Monday meeting, AMED voted to approve its 2023 budget for $7.8 million, which includes the 5.4% rate increase for ambulance transportation. The increase will make the ambulance ride for patients $2050, of which AMED collects 27% through reimbursements from Medicare, Medicade and health insurers. Members of the ambulance service also say that inflation, rising fuel costs, wages, healthcare for its workers and other insurance is driving up annual costs. AMED is also purchasing two new interceptors at $47,000 apiece.
