A report by the Altoona Mirror indicates that the county will get $4.3 million grant from the PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency to upgrade numerous items within the sheriff’s office. The money will pay for new portable radios, computer tablets, and base stations that will be distributed by the 911 center to 14 county municipal police departments. The sheriff’s office also requested money for body cameras and new vehicle cameras, but it is not known if those items were included with the grant award. The county commissioners must approve a resolution to accept the grant money. The original grant request asked for $5.3 million.
