WTAJ reports that the city police dept is searching for new officers to join the force. Currently the Altoona police force stands at 66 officers, and will be accepting applications beginning on Monday and will continue to accept applications thru March 3rd. There are a few vacancies within the dept, and Sgt Matt Plummer says the city may hire more officers as the year goes along when officers retire. The dept is also offering a sign on bonus of $1200 for the first time ever. You do not have to live in the city of Altoona to join the force. New candidates will then be sent to the police academy for training.
