According to a television news report out of Harrisburg, State Rep. Joe Webster a democrat from Montgomery County, has proposed legislation that would allow for school board members to be compensated for their work. Under current law, school boards are not permitted to receive any compensation. But the twist in the bill is that if passed, it would be left up to school district communities to decide whether school board members should get paid. Webster said that school board members are duly elected officials and should get paid like duly elected officials. Webster is also proposing that elected school board members receive free tuition to attend courses connected with school board training.
