A news report from the Associated Press indicates that a PA judge ruled yesterday that the state has in her words “woefully underfunded” poorer school districts for years, which is a violation of students rights. The lawsuit which was filed some 8 years ago, now will possibly set in motion the potential payment of billions of dollars for those district deemed underfunded. In her ruling, Judge Renee Jubelirer said that these students from the poorest school districts have been denied the same opportunities that more affluent districts and students now enjoy. Democrats in Harrisburg applauded the judges decision, while Republicans said they may challenge the ruling in the state supreme court.
