The Altoona Mirror reports that demolition work has begun on the former Appvion plant located in Roaring Spring. The report says that a company called Safegate, has begun the work of razing the former paper plant, which employed upwards of 300 workers. All of the materials that will come out of the razing, will re recycled and sold. The Appvion mill closed back in 2021, losing a $38 million annual payroll, which devastated the local economy in the cove area. All of the machines that produced the paper products at the mill were sold off to companies in South America. Safegate says there will be a meeting on Monday night to discuss the cleanup effort.
