Television news reports indicate that Bedford County D.A. Leslie Childer-Potts resigned from her position last week. The resignation came just a few weeks after Potts’ office was involved with a third mistrial in less than a year. Judge Travis Livengood called the mistrials “reckless conduct” on the part of the D.A. Childers-Potts gave the reason for her resignation, as wanting to spend more time with her family and to put them ahead of the job, and did announce earlier this year that she would not seek re-election to the post. Former Bedford D.A. Dwight Diehl was sworn in to replace Childers-Potts. Diehl asked the public to be patient as he is walking into an unknown situation. Diehl also said that he will not run for the position this year.
