Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, March 24 through Thursday, March 30.
This weekend’s busy slate of live music action across the region features a national country star in concert, a live recording, a belated St. Patrick’s Day party and more.
The second night of his just-launched “I Go Back Tour,” country star Kenny Chesney takes the stage at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center on Saturday night. Named after his 2004 country chart-topping single, the “I Go Back Tour” will take Kenny back to many of the arenas and venues where he performed as his rise to stardom was getting under way. His website calls the tour a “gift to the fans,” and Kenny will play many of his hits, plus a few song surprises that he and his band haven’t performed live in a long time. Opening the evening will be rising country singer Kelsea Ballerini, whose song duet with Kenny, “Half of My Hometown,” won two awards during the 55th annual Country Music Association Awards in 2021. Saturday’s concert will start at 7:30 p.m.
Also on Saturday night, Altoona-based soul innovators The PennSoulvanians will do a live show recording at The LaunchPad in Philipsburg. The PennSoulvanians are in the process of recording their debut EP to be released later in the year. Owned, operated and coordinated by Shawn Inlow, The LaunchPad has been recording band performances monthly (usually on the first Saturday of each month) in front of live audiences. This show will start at 7 p.m. The event is BYOB, and food will be available for purchase.
The Jeremy Edge Project returns to Altoona’s 4D’s Lounge on Saturday night. The guitarist for national recording group Candlelight Red and former regional rockers Backstreet Law and Til December, Jeremy and his Project recently issued a twin album release, “Saints and Souls Vol. 1 & 2.” The group will be performing songs from both albums, along with plentiful blues and blues-rock classics. The music begins at 10 p.m.
And if you didn’t get enough St. Patrick’s Day merriment in last weekend, you have one last opportunity to wear the green this weekend, as the Hookies Fire Company in Tyrone hosts “Hookies Irish Night” on Saturday, with music provided by local Irish rock favorites Full Kilt along with Hot Wax. The music starts at 7 p.m.
These are just a few of the live music events happening during the next seven days. Browse the list below, and – as always – SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!
