A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that the Claysburg Kimmel school board has approved unofficially, a 3% property tax increase for next school year. That number is down from the original 6% limit set by atc 1. Board president Rich Gergely said that if you don’t raise taxes, districts lose out on that revenue for years to come. If the 3% figure is approved, homeowners in the Claysburg district will pay an additional $23 per household, and will generate $93,000 in new revenue. Only one board member, Mona Eckley, voted against any tax hike.
