A news report indicates that Norfolk will likely have to pay out some $387 million for cleanup, and assistance to the residents of East Palestine, Ohio after numerous care derailed and spilled toxic chemicals into the ground, air and water in the Ohio town of 7000 residents. People have had to move from their homes because of the derailment and the ensuing fire that burned off remaining chemicals that were inside the rail cars. The $387 million price tage will likely get higher, and Norfolk says it doesn’t know how much their insurance will cover. New and stronger safety measures have been put into place for train safety since the derailment. The NTSB says its investigation is continuing, into what improvements Norfolk Southern is willing to make.
