Altoona Fire Dept says Norfolk must communicate better

In a report by WTAJ, fire officials say that they are very concerned about the lack of communications by the rail company when it comes to train derailments or fires. The report stated that because ns is federally funded, it is not required to alert the city about such accidents or fires, and doesn’t have to follow any ordinances that other businesses have to follow in such cases of fire or accidents. Cong Dr John Joyce has reached out to NS asking them for cooperation in alerting first responders in time of need. An ns spokesperson said that often times, rail incidents are often minor in nature and do not require emergency personnel
