Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, April 28 through Thursday, May 4.
Although the wet weekend weather forecast isn’t ideal for outdoor live music, three outdoor festivals featuring live music will make the best of it this weekend.
The Blair Creators Festival will showcase creators of various forms on Saturday at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza. Arts and crafts vendors will be displaying their creations, and food trucks and craft beverages will be available. Live music will commence at noon, and continue hourly with performances by Asbury Lane, After School Special, Vision Manifest, Hot Fudge Mondaes, Tom Nevers Field, Bad Luck Lover Boys, The Pines and Sweet Desire. The festival is open to all ages, and admission is free.
Also on Saturday, the 18th annual Huntingdon Mayfest will happen along five blocks of Washington Street in downtown Huntingdon. Each block will have a different historical theme – such as Victorian Era, Colonial Times, Back to the 50s, Woodstock Block and more. Multiple food trucks and vendors will be on hand, plus tables from various businesses and organizations. And live music will take place throughout the day at various spots throughout the festival. The festival begins at 9 a.m., and admission is free. Free parking is available on streets and avenues adjacent to the festival.
And a longtime spring tradition at Penn State, the university’s annual Movin’ On festival, happens Friday rain or shine at the Intramural Fields on the University Park campus. A celebration geared for Penn State students and seniors who are “movin’ on” with their lives after graduation, the event starts at 4 p.m. and will feature a mixture of national caliber and local talent; taking the stage will be J.I.D., COIN, Neon Trees, UPSAHL and Mellow Honey. For more information about Movin’ On, visit the website movinon.org/festival.
And if rains persist as the weather forecast suggests, there are lots of indoor live music options to check out as well. Browse the listing below to find out who is where, and as always, SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!
