In a report out of Washington, the senate voted 51-47 to halt proceeding forward with the bill that would have added the equal rights amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Senate needs 60 votes to get the measure passed, but fell way short, and voted to not pass the legislation now, so they can work on it at a later time. Virginia became the latest state to ratify the ERA, but it came 38 years after a 1982 deadline had passed in order for the ERA to be put into the Constitution as the 28th amendment. Many members of both chambers in Washington say they need to get this resolved now.
