In a report by WTAJ, city police chief Joe Merrill announced that crime numbers and calls received remained on par with those numbers from 2021. Average number of calls received on a daily basis, rose slightly in 2022. Lesser offenses took a bit of a dive in the statistics, according to Chief Merrill. The city had only 1 homicide in all of 2022, none in 2021 and 4 in 2020. Chief Merrill also reported that the police dept raised more than $14,000 in charity work for 2022. Chief Merrill said that the dept is grateful for the community support his dept receives, and they will work hard to continue to receive that support.
