According to a report in the Altoona Mirror, the board unveiled its 23-24 budget last night without a property tax hike for homeowners. Despite a potential deficit of more than $1.8 million, the proposed $30.6 million budget is up slightly from the current budget, by nearly $550,000. The district may use a $600,000 budget reserve fund to get the deficit to the projected $1.86 million. If the board decided to increase taxes to the act 1 index of 5.5% set for spring cove, that would generate an extra $620,000 in income, which could bring the deficit down to around $1.2 million. The board will vote to approve the preliminary budget next Monday.
