According to an Altoona Mirror report, the board has passed the proposal, despite a glaring $3 million deficit. 2 board members voted against passage of the budget, saying that it is nowhere close to becoming balanced. But according to the report, the district can eliminate the deficit by using unassigned district funds to balance the budget. But if that is the case, that fund will be cut in half as a result. 1 board member, Jennifer Costanza who voted no, objected to voting on the budget before it was even presented to the full board. The district says that the eventual evaporation of American Rescue Plan funds has contributed to the budget woes. The good news…THE Budget does not contain a property tax increase. The budget is now available for public inspection. All school district are awaiting word on how much state funding they will receive with the new state budget.
