Television news reports indicate that the Friendship Volunteer Fire Company that serves the roaring spring area is asking its local leaders for a tax increase to generate much needed funding. Officials of the fire company are asking government leaders for a 1 mill tax increase, which would generate $130,000 in revenue, which would help keep the doors open. However, the fire company faces larger financial issues, like having to replace a fire truck with a new one soon, which could cost up to $1 million. Some residents say a tax increase is needed, but others say it would create a hardship. One thing is for sure, without the company, homes and businesses would be in danger, and homeowners insurance rates would significantly increase if roaring spring is left without a volunteer fire company.
