Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 4/23/23

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 23 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

This week, we welcomed guests Andrew Tornatore, Leah Klevan and Tyler Masterson into the studio to discuss the upcoming Blair Creators Festival, taking place on Saturday, April 23 at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza! We discussed details about the festival, which celebrates creativity across a number of fronts – from original arts and crafts to food and drink creations, and – of course – original music! And we played songs from several of the performers scheduled to take the stage during the Festival! We also debuted new songs from OK Otter, Technical Difficulty (a resurrected band that Velveeta frontman Brian Kriley performed with in the 1980s!), Infused, Aron Elvis Honick and Eric Ian Farmer; plus updated “Local Music News” and pulled a 1987 song by Altoona’s Sidewalk Romeo from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 042323.)

In Local Music News…

Altoona-based punk rockers Abstentious announced this past week that one member has departed the group, which forced them to have to pull out of last Monday night’s opening slot for national recording group (hed)PE’s performance at McGarvey’s in Altoona. The announcement said that the group plans to continue on, will still release their new album The Album…Ever as planned, and the release show scheduled for May 7 at McGarvey’s will still take place.

The Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest continues to accept entries for its 2023 edition. Songs must have a Pennsylvania namesake, theme or reference, and can be about a location, person, event or story tied to Pennsylvania. Deadline for entries is May 15. Winners for the top three songs will receive cash prizes plus the opportunity to perform their winning songs during the 2023 Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, which takes place June 15 through 17 at Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork (north of Renovo).
