According to the Altoona Mirror, Penelec has announced an increase in electric rates, just in time for the summer air conditioning season. The increase will take the rate per kilowatt hour for residential customers from 9.56 cents per hour, to 9.70 cents per hour. This means that on average, a customer would see about a $1.06 increase in the monthly electric bill, based on using 750 kilowatt hours per month. The explanation for the increase simply stated… Is that the auction price for generation of electricity came in higher than anticipated. Customers can choose their own electricity provider. In Altoona, there are 46 such providers, along with Penelec.
