A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates the commissioners have approved a contract for $1.37 million for installation of new cameras, monitors, video recording machines and door control devices. The county received just 2 bids for the project, one from Westmoreland Electrical Services for $2.73 million, and the winning bid from Montgomery Technology Systems of Greenville, Alabama. The county also has about $1.6 million from a 2017 bond issue to help cover expenses for the security project. Work on the new security measures won’t begin until a prison study is completed by trans systems corporation consultants of Pa.
