Backyard Beats Listing 6/30/23: Wam Bam Mountain Jam, Rockin’ the Yard and July 4 Live Music This Weekend!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, June 30 through Thursday, July 6.

As we enter the extended July 4 holiday weekend, lots of live music is happening in association with the holiday throughout the regular weekend plus Monday (July 4th eve) and Independence Day itself. Browse the listings below to explore all the live music options. (NOTE: For July 4, start times for fireworks displays are listed as well.)

The “Rockin’ the Yard” concert series at the Jaffa Shrine concert grounds resumes on Friday night with what has become one of the most anticipated bands each year, as Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs bring the country music and fun to the stage. Popular Huntingdon rockers Backlash kick off the music at 6 p.m.

For bluegrass music fans, the annual Remington Ryde Bluegrass Festival continues through Sunday at Grange Park near Centre Hall. Hosted by central PA bluegrass group Remington Ryde, this festival always features some of the top names in bluegrass music each year; Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys and Rhonda Vincent & the Rage are among this year’s entertainers. For tickets and more information, visit the website www.remingtonryde.com/remington-ryde-bluegrass-festival.

Also happening this weekend is the 10th annual Wam Bam Mountain Jam concert event, which takes place in the mountains outside Port Matilda on Saturday. A dozen different bands and artists – most from Centre County – will bring a wide variety of music starting at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome. Tents, campers and RV’s are welcome for staying overnight. Wam Bam takes place at 1547 East Mountain Road (accessed from Route 322) near Port Matilda.

For those concerned about the outdoor smoke situation, the forecast at the time of this posting is for improved conditions and diminishing smoke starting Saturday and continuing through the weekend.

Needless to say, this is one of the busiest live music weekends of summer; see the listings below to discover where the music is happening, and SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC! And have a safe and happy Independence Day holiday!
