One of the bills is designed to help drivers out who get a new insurance policy, where the companies would re required to report any new policy to the dept of transportation, this would help eliminate a gap that could exist between old and new policies, which sometimes results in Harrisburg believing that a driver has no insurance. It is currently up to the driver to inform Penndot of any changes to auto insurance policies. The second bill would require Penndot to send out a notification as to upcoming vehicle registration expiration dates. Drivers then would have to provide either a phone number or e-mail address so that Penndot can send out the reminder. Both bills are currently in the house transportation committee for review.
