WJAC reports that director of marketing and public relations for the turnpike, Carl Defebo says that the commission is charged with delivering a high quality roadway for its customers, and that the commission is bound by law to raise your rates every year. Act 44, passed in 2007, mandates that the state raise tolls 5% every year through 2053. Some of that money is supposed to go to Penndot for transit system funding across the state. Defebo says he hopes that the commission can lower that yearly increase to 3% by 2028.
