A report by state police indicates that a woman says she was contacted by someone claiming to be the Bedford County District Attorney on July 19th. The Martinsburg woman said that the caller told her that she had to leave Bedford County, or wind up in the county jail for the rest of her life. Police did not say if the scammer tried to get money or gift cards from the intended victim. Authorities remind you that police, attorneys and sheriffs will never call o the phone to demand money or gift cards to make phony charges go away. They will also never ask for gift cards in exchange for bail, court fees or any other law enforcement item.
