Police candidate lists shrinking

The report stated that there is a definite problem with recruitment of officer candidates, and the state police are also seeing a downward movement in the number of applicants for them as well. 72nd State Representative Frank Burns of Cambria County said in the report that it comes down to paying more for these jobs, because they are so dangerous. Burnw stated that it is not just law enforcement that is having trouble with getting new workers, but all segments of business, and he said it comes down to pay issues. A state police spokesperson told channel 6 that community engagement programs could be a big help in getting people to get into law enforcement.
